Morsbags on the Atherton Tablelands

Morsbags?  What is that?

Morsbags is a global community initative aimed at reducing the need for plastic shopping bags.  Did you know that in the next 60 seconds, over 1,000,000 plastic bags will be distributed to people all over the world?  It’s true.

It would be easy to whine about shoppers using all those bags and then throwing them away, but shoppers are not bad people.  They are people in need.  Naturally, the reason people use all those bags is they need something to put all their shopping in.  Morsbags gives them another option.  Rather than buy a bag (which they may not be able to afford) or use a free plastic bag, Morsbag guerrillas (volunteers) show up at shops and pass out hand made bags for free.

Would you like to join the local Morsbags group?  Louise Cross is organising the group.  She can be contacted on athertoncommunitygarden@gmail.com

If you’re thinking you would like to be involved, but aren’t really interested in sewing, have a look at this list of ways you could be involved.  If you think of another way to be involved that isn’t listed, contact Louise.

Possible participation options for people might be:
  • saving material/old curtains/doonas/thread
  • Obtaining the above
  • Making a cake to share on the sewing day
