It’s hard to get what you want if you don’t know what it is. If there is something you want, the best way to start is to get a clear image of it. This is not always as easy as it seems. The world is full of a myriad of choices. By narrowing down the range of options, making a series of small decisions that bring the thing into focus, you have a much better chance of recognising the thing you want when you see it.
Say you want a new pair of shoes. If you narrow down whether you want sport shoes or dress shoes, the style, the colour, the price you want to pay, etc, you will know when you find the right shoes. Otherwise, you might waste a lot of time looking or end up buying several pairs of shoes which are almost but not quite right.
