Preparing Oranges

Remember: If you’re packing a lunch, remember to pack a serviette and a water bottle, just in case hand washing facilities aren’t so handy. Always be careful in the kitchen, especially if you’re using a knife.

Method # 1

Place your orange or a cutting board with the button at the top. Take a sharp knife and cut the orange in six segments, but don’t cut all the way through at the bottom. Open the orange like you would peel a banana, allowing the orange to stay with the peel. Your orange now looks a bit like a flower. This method leaves all the sticky parts away from your hands and all the good eating parts where you can get to them!

Method # 2

Roll your orange on a hard surface to loosen the skin. Use a small knife to cut the peel in quarters (you can do this as you pack your lunch) but don’t cut through the flesh. Grab the peel and pull off. You’re down to the good stuff now!

Method # 3

Roll your orange on a hard surface to loosen the skin. Pierce the peel, but not the fruit underneath, with a sharp knife or your fingernail. Slip a spoon under the peel and lift it gently as you turn the orange. If you don’t have a spoon, use your thumb to get under the peel. Viola!

Method # 4

Save time and drips later by cutting your orange into wedges and place in a sandwich bag or re-useable container as you’re packing your lunch.
