People differ on how sleepiness affects them, but here are a few signs of sleepiness that are common:
- Loss of alertness
- Yawning, especially if it is frequent
- Bloodshot, tired or sore eyes
- Difficulty focusing eyes, or eyes going out of focus
- Blinking for longer than usual amounts of time
- Slurred or lazy speech
- Difficulty in keeping head up
- Arms and legs feel heavy
- Reduced ability to do physical tasks, such as pouring water into a glass without spilling
- Reduced ability to do mental tasks, such as reading a clock
- Slow reaction time
- Lack of concentration, mind wandering or day dreaming
- Clumsiness
- Difficulty following a conversation
- Disorientation
